The Horses

Summer Rain's Forgotten Horses Summer Rain Stables is proud to take forgotten and neglected horses and return them to their former splendor. Though we are not able to do this on a large scale, we give horses a second chance at life and a loving home. We cannot save them all, but it matters to the one that we did. Our newest Forgotten Horse is Cisco. He was acquired the middle of September when horses should be at their fattest only Cisco was skin and bones. He arrived with a Body Condition Score of 1-2, and yet someone had thought he would be okay to ride as he had sweat marks from a saddle pad on his back. Cisco has one of the kindest eyes we have seen and in them you can see a desire to keep going. He has impeccable ground manners and whinnies to people when the come by. In spite of his first appearance, Cisco is an extremely flashy Appy gelding that appears to be sound! The owner told us he didn't keep well on pasture grass, when we fed him, he did nothing but eat for 4 days straight. 1/27/09 What an awesome horse Cisco is. He has put on a lot of weight with the wet alfalfa pellets he eats and is ready to start looking for a new home! He plays like a kid in the pasture but when under saddle all he wants to do is walk. Talk about a wonderful babysitter. No need to worry about him running off with you or a nervous novice. He dose has some vision impairment in at least one eye. He does not want to venture out on trails alone, but with another horse to follow, he's all game. He goes fine by himself in the arena - as long as you only want to walkk. No new pictures yet, but they should be coming shortly...

| | This picture was taken 1 week after Cisco got to us. Due to his coloring it's hard to see just how skinny he is, though he has already gained weight in these pictures.
| Cisco's kind and sweet face | As you can see he is a big boned boy!

More Forgotten Horses... Mali was the skinniest most neglected horse we have had. We had the vet out and were told not to be surprised if he fell down and wasn't able to get up. He was so weak he swayed side to side and we kept waiting for him to fall over, but survive he did and what an amazing horse was waiting to come out! He was used in our lesson program until a he found a new home in Seattle where he is used in pony parties and as a lesson horse.
