Carolyn Eddy: I have 33 years of experience blending modalities to create riders who have healthy, balanced, kind riding skills and who are advocates for their horses' best interests and developing horses who are comfortable and happy in their work. I believe that dressage is the lifelong pursuit of what makes us better as humans and not about winning ribbons. However, I also believe that the pursuit of excellence through riding will make you and your horse excellent, in the show ring or on the trail.
I offer holistic horse and rider training that incorporates classical dressage and energy work based on TTEAM, Ta'i Chi, Feldenkrais, and Sally Swift with chiropractic and massage (offered by my team of licensed practitioners). I believe that anyone who rides needs to actively study and work with a bodywork system, and not just ride. Understanding your horse's body comes from understanding and improving your own.
In addition to having studied with Linda Tellington-Jones, creator of TTEAM, I studied for many years under Donna Longacre, "I" rated international dressage judge, and Peter DeCosemo, British dressage instructor. I have also sponsored clinics for my students with Dr Thomas Ritter, and studied his theories and writing. He, in my opinion, is one of the finest minds in dressage today. I also served on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Dressage Society for five years. I have done clinics with Olympic Gold Medalist Hilda Gurney, George Morris, and Eric Herbermann. I also studied Ta'i Chi with World Champion David-Dorian Ross and Feldenkrais with Diana Gallardo.
For western riders I served a Monte Foreman apprenticeship, which involved the first attempts by a Western rider to blend dressage with the then-current Western riding skills. He was also a pioneer in the use of video to analyse horses and riders.
Due to a severe hip injury in my 20's I no longer ride but anyway, I prefer to work with riders to learn to deal with their own challenges and problems. If you are part of the solution for your horse, that skill becomes your own to be used on your next project.
